Talking ‘bout the relatives
Rich Knoblich
ISBN: 978-0-9766666-9-1
Format: Paperback

Rich Knoblich’s original humor reflects on the gentle spirit of Appalachian folk and the hilarious events surrounding their lives. His creative tall tale writings have been published in various national and regional magazines. Each story incorporates members of his family and friends he has made over the years. Stories are located at actual locations in West Virginia and the events are often real — all with plenty of embellishment. You might question pirates in West Virginia, close calls with Wall Street financial cannibals, or high-tech outhouses, but you’ll never question the laugh you’ll get as Rich weaves his tall tales.

Rich has brought home seven ribbons from the West Virginia State Liar’s Contest, including a first place win in 2002. He’s been the featured performer twelve times at the West Virginia Storytelling Festival, and has appeared on the PBS television series, The Call of Story.

More twists and turns than a rollercoaster! You never know if you're about to laugh, cry, sigh, or shudder. Perfect for that snowy or rainy day when you want to curl up by the fireplace and be swept away to other times and other lands. Expect the unexpected, but also, expect to be entertained. Bill Cohen, Journalist

What an entertaining read! In each story, I kept asking myself "Where is that wylie John Locke going with this one?" My mind would race through the possibilities. Just when you think he is going to zig the plot line, the story zags. Frank Agin, President, AmSpirit Business Connections

What is common to all these stories are the ironic endings — some creating suspense or humor and others driving a point while still others create a vast range of emotions. I'm reminded of a variety of other story producers: O'Henry, Thurber, Poe, Alfred Hitchcock and Rod Sterling. A good twist of fate is as subtly flavorful to the tale as a twist of lemon to a dry martini. Hank Arbaugh, Folklorist, Musician, Educator

The true magic in the unfolding of Seamus McSeamus’ adventures is that Cathy’s descriptive writing puts the reader into the heart of Ireland. Seamus left me envious to have a life of wanderings and adventures even half as exciting. Kris Wright, elementary school librarian, 30 years, South-Western City Schools, Ohio

The power of words, the wonder of fairy folk, and the voice of story from an ancient land drew me into each part of Cathy Jo Smith's original tales. Reading of the adventures of Seamus McSeamus, whom Cathy Jo developed from the heroic protagonists in long-ago legends of Ireland, was a satisfying and soothing story-journey. Cathy Jo shares her storytelling craft with the flair and fashion of a wordsmith of old. Lyn Ford, nationally known storyteller
